Assessment 1 - Writing a Research Question

Aim
The aim of the assessment is to conduct a critical appraisal of the literature and to develop a research question.
Instructions
- Identify the area in which you wish to develop a research question.
- Obtain approval from your tutor.
- Develop a search strategy to find previous work in this area.
- Critically appraise the works that you find.
- Formulate your research question.
- Write your submission. This should be 2,000 words (plus/minus 10%) to include:
- Title - indicating the area/topic in which the research will take place
- Search Strategy - used to identify publications
- Background - details of the literature reviewed and a critical appraisal of existing knowledge in the area to support the formulation of a new research question.
- Hypothesis - stating the question to be investigated
- References - supporting the background and research question

Pass mark
This assessment is worth 40% of the module mark. Your work will be graded according to the grading criterion available in the module specification. Your school may translate this into a numerical grade when considering your overall performance.
